# Facilitators

> Put the people who run each cohort in its Slack channel, with the dashboard visibility their role grants.

**Facilitators** are the people who run a cohort day to day: a hiring manager, a
trainer, an onboarding buddy lead. In Doozy, a facilitator is anyone on a
program's [People list](/cohorts/set-up-cohorts#people) with **In channel**
turned on. Doozy adds them to each cohort's Slack channel when it opens, so
they're in the room with the group from day one.

## Channel access and dashboard access are separate

Being in the channel is a channel setting, not a permission level. What a
facilitator can see and do in the Doozy dashboard comes from their role on the
same People list. Most facilitators are **viewers**, which is a read-only view
of:

* The program and its cohorts, without the edit, pause, or create controls
* Each cohort's **roster**: who's in the cohort and how they were added
* Each person's **progress** through the program's per-person tracks, including
  steps completed and who is still **waiting for Slack**

Anyone in your workspace can be a facilitator, and they see only the programs
they've been added to. Give a facilitator the **editor** role instead if they
should also manage members, the schedule, and the program's tracks.

## Managing facilitators

Facilitators are managed in the **People** section of the program's page.
Program admins add a person with the people picker, and a newly added person
defaults to a viewer who's in the channel. Editors can turn **In channel** on
or off for someone already on the list.

Changes apply to cohorts that haven't finished yet. A newly added facilitator
can see running cohorts immediately and joins channels from the next cohort that
opens; an already-open channel doesn't retro-invite.

When a cohort needs a human, because it couldn't open or someone couldn't be
enrolled, facilitators get the Slack DM alert along with the program's admins.

With the channel set to **No channel** there's nothing to join, and the People
list alone decides who sees the program.

  Facilitators support the cohort, they aren't members of it. They don't count
  toward the cohort's member count, and per-person tracks don't run for them.
