# Step: Poll

> Collect feedback and responses from users through customizable polls in your track.

The **Poll** step allows you to gather feedback, opinions, and data from users as they progress through your track. Polls are perfect for collecting quick insights, measuring satisfaction, or engaging users with simple, focused questions. Unlike surveys which can include multiple questions, polls focus on a single question to get fast, actionable feedback.

## ⚙️ Configuration

### Question

Craft a focused, single question for your poll:

* **Question text**: Enter your poll question clearly and concisely
* **Character limit**: While technically flexible, keep questions under 200 characters for better engagement
* **Best practice**: Ask one specific thing rather than multiple questions combined

**Example questions**:

* "How would you rate your first day experience?"
* "Do you feel prepared for your role?"
* "What's your biggest challenge so far?"

### Question Types

Choose from various question types to collect the right kind of feedback:

| Type | Description | Best For |
| ------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| **Multiple Choice** | Predefined options (single or multiple selection) | Categorizing responses, limiting options |
| **Scale 1-10** | Buttons 1-10 with labels | Detailed satisfaction, confidence ratings |
| **Scale 1-5** | Buttons 1-5 with labels | Quick satisfaction checks |
| **Emoji** | 5 emoji options (😊 to 😡) | Low-friction mood/feeling checks |
| **Employee NPS** | 0-10 scale with Promoter/Passive/Detractor categorization | Standardized engagement measurement |
| **Open Ended** | Free-form text input | Detailed qualitative insights |

### Poll Options

#### Allow Multiple Answers

*Available for Multiple Choice questions only*

* **Enable**: Users can select multiple options
* **Disable**: Users can only select one option
* **Example**: "Which of these resources were helpful?" (multiple) vs "What's your primary role?" (single)

#### Allow Comments

Enable an optional comment field with any question type.

* **Purpose**: Provides context for responses
* **Display**: Adds a free text field below the main question
* **Example**: Add "Any additional thoughts?" field to a rating question

#### Response Time Limit

Set how long people have to respond to the poll:

* **No Limit**: Poll remains open indefinitely (default)
* **Specific Duration**: Set hours, days, or weeks for responses
* **Strategy**: Shorter limits (1-3 days) improve response rates; longer limits (1-2 weeks) allow flexibility

## 📍 Destination

Choose where the poll will be sent:

| Destination | Description | Example |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------- |
| **User** | Direct message to the track participant | "How was your first day?" |
| **Manager** | Participant's manager (requires manager configured in Doozy) | "How is \{\{user}} progressing?" |
| **Mentor** | Assigned mentor (requires mentor assignment step earlier) | "How is your mentorship going?" |
| **Mentor & User** | Group DM to both mentor and mentee | "How was your first mentorship meeting?" |

## ⏰ Schedule Settings

### Delivery Time

Control when the poll is sent:

* **Immediate**: Leave blank to send immediately when the step is triggered
* **Scheduled**: Select a specific time (e.g., 4:00 PM) for delivery
* **Timezone consideration**: Time is based on the recipient's timezone

## 📊 Poll Responses

### Viewing Results

Access poll results in the [Doozy dashboard](https://doozy.live):

* Open **Surveys** and select the poll, or
* Open **Tracks**, select the track, and view the step's results

From there you can see response rates, answer distributions, individual responses, and download a detailed CSV export.

## ⭐ Best Practices

1. **Ask one specific thing** - "How was your first day?" beats "How are things?"
2. **Poll at milestones** - Day 1, Week 1, Day 30 when experiences are fresh
3. **Don't over-poll** - Space polls out; one per week maximum
4. **Limit choices** - 3-7 options for multiple choice; include "Other" with comments
5. **Use consistent scales** - Stick to 1-5 or 1-10 throughout a track
6. **Act on feedback** - Review regularly and share insights with stakeholders

## 🎯 Common Use Cases

* **Milestone Feedback**: Collect reflections at Day 1, Week 1, Day 30, Day 90
* **Manager Assessments**: Get supervisor perspectives on team member progress
* **Training Effectiveness**: Measure confidence or understanding after training
* **Engagement Measurement**: Use NPS polls to track employee engagement
* **Mentor Check-ins**: Poll both mentors and mentees on the relationship
